MEET DR. LAILA ABOUHASSWA, O.D.

Dr. Laila Abouhasswa is a board-certified optometrist specializing in the post-operative care of glaucoma, cataract and pterygium patients, as well as the management of dry eye disease and comprehensive eye care. She provides care for pediatric patients ages 8 and older and has extensive experience in contact lens fitting and management.  Fluent in English, Spanish, and Arabic, she brings a rare ability to connect with patients across Queens’ diverse community.

Dr. Abouhasswa was born and raised in Queens, New York, and is of Egyptian heritage. Her interest in eye health began close to home: her father experienced two retinal detachments, which sparked her drive to help protect patients from preventable vision loss. After completing her training, she chose to build her career back in the community that raised her, drawn to giving back — especially to its underserved patients.

She earned her undergraduate degree in Biology from Hunter College and went on to complete her Doctor of Optometry at SUNY College of Optometry. She is a member of the American Optometric Association and the New York State Optometric Association.

Dr. Abouhasswa is committed to making every patient feel heard and cared for. She takes the time to listen to her patients’ concerns, answer their questions, and explain things in a way that makes sense — so that every patient leaves feeling informed and reassured about their eye health. Outside the clinic, she enjoys fashion and running.
